Monday Myth Debunkers: If the Self Tape Deadline Gets Pushed…

Oh the dreaded deadline push…

Just when you think it’s another audition — 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙥 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙥, casting has pushed their deadline.

But you’ve already turned in your tape. And you think you’ve done a pretty good job, if you don’t say so yourself.

𝙎𝙤, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡?

Why are they pushing the deadline?

Surely it’s because they haven’t found anyone who has knocked their socks off yet so they are extending the deadline in hopes of finding someone who will.

𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦.

But most likely? Not the case.

Breakdown gives us the option to extend the deadline “discreetly” and, well, not so discreetly.

Either way, the motivation for extending is usually the same.

Remember that everyone watches tapes at a difference pace.

But if we watched every tape that came in right when we got? We’d never be able to get anything done.

The primary reason we’ll extend the deadline is quite frankly, for the obvious:

We are getting messages from a lot of reps that actors need an extension.

Whether that’s due to the volume of sides, the deadline running into a holiday, or during a busier season.

So, to alleviate the influx of emails asking for extensions, we’ll simply just extend it.

The main take away?

A self tape deadline extension does not mean you are out of the running.

And even if we *did* extend the deadline because we aren’t loving the tapes coming in—

Remember that you are only * 𝘰𝘯𝘦* person. We may love just 6 tapes but we’re hoping to pitch 10.

And your tape very well may be one of those 6!

Do good work …and then move on.

Your hard work will be seen, regardless of a self tape deadline.

Pinky promise.
