Terminology Tuesday: One-Liner

Alright folks, it’s topic we love to hate.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙣𝙚-𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨.

Or any co-star audition for that matter where you run the risk of overthinking it and letting it keep you up at night.

One-liners (or any audition for that matter) should not keep you up at night!

One-liners refer to any audition where you only have 1 line. But we’re doing to dive a little deeper today and talk more about these small co-star auditions.

𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳?

You’ve heard coaches tell you to just say the line, don’t make the scene about you.

You’ve also heard coaches tell you to stand out from the rest, make a bold choice!

😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

This friends, is what we like to call “𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧 𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙠 𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙙”

Your mind is staring to spiral. And you’re starting to feel stuck in every choice you make.

Sometimes you just need a little reminder from the folks who watch self tapes until they are blue in the face:

𝘽𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨, 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚, 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙗𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙚, 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜.

That’s it! Now, you’ve mastered acting. Congrats!

😉

Here’s the real take away: doing the work doesn’t just apply to bigger roles.

𝕀𝕥 𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕝𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕥𝕠 𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕣𝕠𝕝𝕖𝕤.

By properly understanding how to break down text, do the necessary character work and bringing your authentic truth the role, auditioning will suddenly feel lighter and dare we say… 𝙛𝙪𝙣?!

Text analysis skills are crucial to turning auditions into bookings. And those text analysis skills apply to one-liners as well.

Subscribers, keep an 👀 on your email tonight for more goodies on text analysis for co-star auditions.
