Monday Myth Debunkers: Always Send Multiple Takes.

Oh the dreaded takes…

When in doubt, send 2, right?

It mays seem like the practical choice, but for us, that potentially means DOUBLE the self tapes we had originally signed up for.

The silver lining to virtual casting is the ability to read/meet more actors than we normally would in an in-person setting (yay!)

But when we’re faced with hundreds of tapes that are double to triple what we had signed up for, time becomes a problem.

And it’s up to us to figure out which take to send forward to producers. That means scratching our heads, trying to figure out what is different in either take.

Please don’t load this onto casting offices.

Instead, do this:

– Default to whatever the directions tell you to do. If the office asks for 2 takes, great! Send 2 takes. But please send contrasting takes—meaning 2 different directions in each take.

– If the directions do not ask for 2 takes, send us your best. This requires your own self judgement or maybe an opinion from your reps, an acting coach or a trusted friend.

This journey requires a lot of trust, which can sometimes feel unsettling.

But remember, 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘀.

Trust yourself and those instincts. They are wiser than you might realize.
