Did you know?

Self tape extensions can sometimes be a cause for concern and stress for actors—but they shouldn’t! Here’s why and what you should know:

Self tape extensions happen for a number of reasons other than “not finding the right person for the role.”

The biggest reason we extend a deadline is because, quite simply, a substantial amount of reps are asking for it.

In times of episodic season, pilot season, and the holiday season when people are just busier, traveling or riddled with a number of viruses, we see an uptick in extension requests.

From a technical standpoint, if a rep asks for an extension, we have 2 options on our end (swipe left for the visual):

1. Send the notification to all reps/clients that the deadline has been extended (option on the left)

Or

2. Select “set as already notified” — a far more popular option to allow for reps to upload tapes past the deadline without sending a notification that the due date has been extended.

This happens often.

Sometimes, if there are many requests for an extension, it makes the most sense to notify all reps/clients on the change. Other times, like when the requests are few and far between, we will choose the more discreet option (on the right).

The takeaway?

(Hopefully) reassurance that deadline extensions are common and happen frequently, even when you don’t know about them.

They are far more often because of the need for extensions vs. not being able to find selects to send out to our creative team.

You might think, “well if they found enough as is, my tape included, why the need for an extension anyway?”

Because we value each actor’s audition that we requested and we’ve already invested our time to watch their read.

Which puts more weight on the idea that you were chosen to audition for a purpose and with intention. Not randomly. We are eager to see what you do with the material and we are willing to wait a little longer, if we can, to see it.

Trust that you did good work and it will be noticed.
