If this sounds like a stressful and overwhelming undertaking, it’s because it is.
Actor friends, it’s easy to get burnt out from the constant worry that you need to keep reminding us who you are and what you’re capable of.
And while we appreciate the efforts, the purpose of this post is to help you relax and understand why what you’re already doing… is enough.
Things like social media, mailers, newsletters, updates, postcards, etc. can be extremely overwhelming to keep up with and manage.
But many actors feel like they need to keep reminding us of who they are or we might be at risk of “forgetting them forever.”
Is there any truth to that?
Here is your gentle reminder that as casting directors, our jobs are are to find the best actors for the job for a particular project that we are currently working on—not to be remember every single actor every hour of the day.
Yes, it is our job to retain some recall regarding who’s who but we heavily rely on our trusted talent reps and submissions to give us ideas and to jog our memories.
We aren’t supposed to remember every single actor 24/7.
Even if you email us every month, we still may not remember to bring you in for that one role you’re perfect for.
That is why having great reps who remind us when the time is right and being submitted with stellar materials is the most efficient way to keep on our radar.
Does keeping us updated outside of those thing hurt? Certainly not.
But if it’s a source of stress in your career and life, take it from us and drop this one from your never-ending to-do list.
