We’ve talked about social media before and we don’t think it’s something you need to add

We’ve talked about social media before and we don’t think it’s something you need to add to your already full plate.

But we often hear the follow up question of, “but doesn’t it sometimes help break a tie?”

From our perspective and experience, usually not.

Yes, there are times when the creative team is divided on a final decision.

Or, maybe our creative team has a choice but it conflicts with the choice of our studio or network.

Do we go to social media following/presence at that point?

99.9% of the time, the answer is no.

Sure, there might be an indie film here or there where they believe social media could boost their sales.

But when it comes to TV and studio film, that is just not the case.

Studio film has the budget for marketing, as does TV and streaming.

They don’t need the actors to promote the project for them, they just need the actors to be good.

Barbie was a great example of this: a major studio film with a ton of anticipation, yet neither lead actor has a public social media account.

Most independent film operates this way as well. They’d rather invest in their actors and marketing separately, rather than use their actors for the marketing.

So while we can’t say it’s never happened or won’t happen in the future, it’s certainly not something that is standard to the world of casting.
