Just like any professional career: medicine, law, teaching, IT, engineering, real estate, beauty etc., there is a level of initial investment for education and a certain amount of materials to start your business.
Yes, we want you to embrace your craft and relish in the art, but your career 𝘪𝘴 also a business.
What we do want to encourage is being financially mindful.
Anything that promises a shortcut to acting is a tried and true 🚩
Make smart financial decisions with your business and cut unnecessary expenses.
Some examples on areas where you can save and leave out (as they are not crucial) are:
– Websites
– Mailers
– Gifts
– Slate shots
– Annual headshots
– Too many materials on your AA profile
– Business Cards
– Coaching on every audition
– Specialized wardrobe (please don’t buy clothes for auditions)
– Specialized footage shot for your reel
– Postcards
Yes, foundational training is important (and arguably required). And continuous training is also crucial. However, it’s OK to take breaks when needed. 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦.
In the meantime, keep your muscles strong by reading plays, practicing self taping daily, doing actor studies, reading for other actor’s self tapes, writing, etc.
