Double-tap if you find yourself spending more time than desired thinking about what to wear for your audition.
Here’s the inside scoop on wardrobe:
*whispers* 𝘐𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩.
YES, we often give direction and/or specific instructions when it comes to wardrobe, but that’s mostly to help alleviate any overthinking.
And yes… it’s also to ensure you don’t show up in a ballgown when auditioning for “waitress.”
We’ve seen it all: full-blown cop uniforms, clothes getting stripped off in the room (please don’t do this), and even way-too-real-looking guns as props (𝙋𝙇𝙀𝘼𝙎𝙀, 𝙋𝙇𝙀𝘼𝙎𝙀 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨).
Here’s what actually matters:
That your clothing choice is appropriate for the role/tone of the show.
A few examples:
✖️ DON’T wear a trendy blazer to a post-apocalyptic audition.
✔️ DO wear something more conservative/buttoned-up for period pieces.
✖️ DON’T go out and buy any type of clothing for an audition. There is absolutely no need.
✔️ DO read the wardrobe notes and make smart choices with what you have on hand.
Also: know that if showing up in a lab coat or a fancy dress or a uniform is what helps you better connect with the character. You do you.
𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕡𝕡𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕣𝕠𝕞 𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕔𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕡𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕚𝕒𝕝 𝕚𝕤 𝕟𝕠𝕥 𝕠𝕟 𝕠𝕦𝕣 𝕥𝕠-𝕕𝕠 𝕝𝕚𝕤𝕥.
But please don’t let wardrobe stress you out.
Don’t have scrubs? A plain v-neck works just as well.
Stuck on what to wear in general? A good rule of thumb is that SIMPLE IS BEST. Basic colored t-shirts, henleys, and basic office wear are all great staples.
But remember: we’re not hiring you for your wardrobe. We’re hiring you for your acting.
Don’t spend ample time thinking about wardrobe when you could be thinking about your character’s backstory.
Make a wardrobe choice and move on. Your time is your currency.
