Did you know?: Let’s talk about reps and who you’re getting the audition from and why.

Did you know?

Let’s talk about reps and who you’re getting the audition from and why.

A big topic of discussion amongst reps and casting is which rep we are “giving” the audition to.

This can be a touchy subject if, for example, a manager pitches you for a role but casting “gives” the audition to the agent.

This makes it seem as though the agent worked a little harder to get you the audition, when in reality, it was the manager who went out of their way to send a detailed pitch.

It can then trickle down to feelings of distrust between actor and rep, especially if the actor finds that the majority of their auditions are coming from one rep over the other.

Which then becomes a conversation between casting and reps. And putting pressure on casting to ensure they are sending out appointments to the rep who pitches the client. Which can also be… a lot of extra work.

It’s all about communication and understanding our process.

We often go through submissions via Breakdown Express first and then take a look at email pitches. Not always, but usually.

If you swipe, you’ll see how an actor (Actor 1) was submitted twice (once by their agent, once by their manager). Breakdown Express only allows us to send the audition to ONE rep. So, we’ll usually choose the one who submits them first or shows up first in our selected algorithm. And it’s very possible that the OTHER rep pitched this actor, which has yet to be viewed.

The takeaway?

Correlation does not always imply causation. One rep could be working extremely hard for you while it may seem as though the other is getting you more auditions.

While there are definitely times when you and your rep may not be seeing eye-to-eye or their efforts aren’t matching your expectations, other times, they are simply doing their jobs.

If you have concerns, definitely express this to your reps and get a meeting on the books. Communication and trust are key components of a healthy rep/client relationship.
