Talent reps are an intregal part of the casting process and their hard work/countless hours put into each of their clients’ careers is often overlooked and underappreciated.
However, there will be times when your rep will say something that conflicts either with something you heard or how you fundamentally feel about a situation.
What should you do?
Should you drop your instincts and just go with that they say?
Our answer is no. And that it also doesn’t have to be black & white.
Having respectful conversations about business decisions is a natural and essential part of any working relationship.
Be respectful of their opinion and then express your own opinion and concern.
You may be surprised to find that they are willing to change their stance or understand your perspective better.
Remember: there is no rule book to an acting career. And one method does not work for all.
The goal is not to appease one another, it’s to understand each other so that you can work toward a unified goal of success.
